Best Industry Marketing Campaign
2022 has been a topsy-turvy year, full of contrasts, twists and turns. It’s like a rollercoaster rocketing along at breakneck speed and just when you think you’ve got a handle on which direction you’re going, you’re subjected to another hair-rising turn with no warning, making you realise you’re just a passenger with little to no control. For brokers, lenders, aggregators trying to understand where the economy, especially the property market, business and employment, is headed has been like trying to follow an out-of-control rollercoaster.

A triumphant return
After two years of virtual ceremonies, the mortgage and finance industry’s most prestigious awards returned as a live event, bringing people together for a fun-filled night to celebrate the nation’s top performers
The last few years have profoundly highlighted the strength and fortitude of the Australian people. The resilience we have witnessed as the nation grapples with the ongoing pandemic and life-shattering natural disasters is beyond awe-inspiring. Throughout all of this, our broker community’s outstanding adaptability has seen them reimagine how they work to help customers at a critical time in history so as to feel secure in their homeownership decisions. With a shifting economic environment, Westpac is more committed than ever to supporting brokers to help more Australians into their homes. Australians trust and value the independent service mortgage brokers provide. We support and celebrate this as we come together to recognise an industry of hard-working and high-achieving professionals at this year’s AMAs. Our Third Party Distribution channel continues to contribute strongly to the growth of the Westpac Home Lending Portfolio and is a testament to the solid and steadfast relationships we have built with brokers. We’re listening to what brokers need and committed to service excellence, which means we’re continually looking for new ways to improve the broker experience across product, policy, process and support. Congratulations to all the excellence awardees and winners – we applaud your achievements.

Research The Australian Mortgage Awards team conducted research and drew on knowledge and information gained through MPA and Australian Broker to verify and support nominations received. excellence awardees were determined from both pools of information.
The year began with a booming property market enjoying price growth of more than 20% in the previous 12 months, record low interest rates, and plenty of buyer demand. Hopes were high among SMEs that a post-pandemic bounce in economic activity would put a spring back in their step. Fast forward to November and there has been seven consecutive official cash rate hikes. Property sales and values have declined and inflation is sitting at above 7% and heading towards 8%. Businesses are struggling with supply chain issues and labour shortages, influenced by flooding in Australia, the war in Ukraine and the fact that few international migrants have returned. But the strength of the mortgage and finance industry is in its resilience – it’s ability to roll with the punches and adapt to whatever situation it finds itself in. While the property market has slowed down, there’s been a flurry of activity from borrowers looking to refinance their home loan, businesses are seeking loans to expand or for cash flow and Australians continue to put their trust in brokers and their skills – almost 70% of home loans are sourced through brokers. Finance professionals deserve to celebrate their ongoing achievements in what has been a challenging but ultimately rewarding year. The Australian Mortgage Awards 2022 were a chance to recognise just how important brokers and their lending partners are in providing a highly skilled, responsive and customer-focused service to millions of people and businesses A record crowd of more than 700 people embraced the opportunity to enjoy the AMAs 2022, held at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney on October 14. Comedian and presenter Ed Kavalee was MC while attendees danced up a storm to the sounds of party band Furnace and the Fundamentals. Organised by Key Media, the AMAs are supported by Mortgage Professional Australia and Australian Broker. Westpac was the event partner for the 13th consecutive year. The award sponsors also included Adelaide Bank, Bankwest, BOQ, CBA, Dye & Durham, Equity-One, FBAA, Firstmac, La Trobe Financial, Liberty, MFAA, Mortgage Choice, MSA National, NextGen, OnDeck, Pepper Money, Prime Capital, PropTrack, Resimac and Trilogy Funds. Brokers, brokerages, BDMs, aggregators and lenders were honoured at the AMAs across two 25 categories plus the two big national awards – Westpac Australian Broker of the Year and Liberty Australian Brokerage of the Year. Winner of Westpac Australian Broker of the Year and La Trobe Financial Broker of the Year – Commercial, Daniel Green, the founder and director of Green Finance Group says he was honoured by the awards and even more “by the team of people around me, many of whom took home their own excellence awards on the night”. “When I started this business 12 years ago, from my home office, I had a long-term goal – to grow a one-stop finance brokerage that was home to the best and brightest speciality finance brokers in the country,” Green says. Mhairi MacLeod, of Astute Ability Finance Group, who was named Pepper Money Broker of the Year for Specialist Lending, says winning such a prestigious award gives her business incredible traction. She says the awards were spectacular and people should never underestimate the power of peer-to peer networking. For Nick Atanasovski, winning Adelaide Bank Young Gun of the Year, was the realisation of one of the goals he set for himself when he established his brokerage Turnkey Finance just 17 months ago. “Going on to win this amazing award amongst the other eight worthy candidates is an outstanding feeling of pride, gratitude and humility,” he said. Key Media is honoured to present the 2022 Australian Mortgage. Congratulations to all the excellence awardees and winners. Read on to find out more about this year’s AMAs.

2022 Judging Panel
Australians have been through a lot since Westpac opened its doors in 1817. Wonderful, challenging, exhilarating moments - we’ve seen most of them up close and personal. Banking is often invisible in our lives, and even though we’re pretty sure you don’t think about us all the time, you’re interacting with us and our products nearly every day and when it does matter, we’re there to back you. It’s why we’re constantly improving your banking experience with technology like the launch of our new mobile App. Why we protect you through initiatives such as our scams promise. Why we’re working to provide simpler, smarter, and smoother banking to help you take and maintain control of your money - with features like Tap+Pay and Cardless Cash (T&Cs and eligibility apply). It’s why we offer Westpac rewards and better savings rates and give you the opportunity to really dig down into and understand what makes your finances work. Whether you’re saving for your first big road trip or turning a side-hustle into a full-time gig; starting a family, downsizing to start a new adventure or getting financially literate - we’re here. Life is eventful – that’s why we help. To learn more, visit: westpac.com.au/brokers

It’s why we offer Westpac rewards and better savings rates and give you the opportunity to really dig down into and understand what makes your finances work Whether you’re saving for your first big road trip or turning a side-hustle into a full-time gig; starting a family, downsizing to start a new adventure or getting financially literate - we’re here. Life is eventful – that’s why we help Contact details: Website: www.westpac.com.au/brokers/
